Charges laid after fatal workplace incident

WorkSafe Victoria has commenced prosecution action against a stone supplier over the death of a worker at a Melbourne warehouse in 2020.

The company faces three charges under the OHS Act for failing to provide or maintain a safe working environment.

WorkSafe alleges the company breached section 21(2) (a) of the Victorian OHS Act by failing to provide or maintain a safe system of work when unloading stone slabs.

Other charges include allegations that the company failed to provide or maintain safe plant, relating to forklift use at the time of the incident and racking used to store stone slabs at the warehouse.
