Charges filed after worker dies from fall at VIC construction site

OHS Daily News

In the aftermath of a worker's death in the hospital resulting from a three-meter fall at a building site in Glen Waverley two years ago, WorkSafe Victoria has recently initiated charges against a carpenter and a residential construction firm.

The 23-year-old man was in the process of installing roof trusses on the first floor of the construction site when he fell through an unguarded stair void, landing on the concrete floor beneath.

The carpenter and the construction firm are each facing a charge under section 26(1) of the Occupational Health and Safety Act for their failure to maintain a safe workplace free from health hazards.

The cases will be mentioned at the Melbourne Magistrates' Court on 25 November 2024.
