Workplace Health and Safety Queensland is implementing a proactive compliance campaign aimed at minimising risks associated with working in proximity to powerlines within the agricultural sector.

The objective of this statewide campaign is to lower the risk of workers or machinery encroaching upon unsafe proximities to electrical power lines, with a specific focus on upholding exclusion zones.

WHSQ data indicates that since 2021, Queensland's agricultural sector has experienced three fatalities and 113 incidents of powerline strikes, with a significant number occurring in relation to mobile equipment, irrigation systems, or aerial operations.

“Therefore, this campaign will focus on the safety of workers and others in the agriculture sector from electrical hazards by ensuring businesses meet the requirements of Queensland's electrical safety laws,” Workplace Health and Safety Queensland said.
