An investigation has been launched by the NSW Resources Regulator after the body of a man was found in a mine shaft in northern New South Wales.

Emergency services responded to a workplace incident in Ellalong around 12.45pm on Tuesday 17 September 2024.

When the police arrived at the scene, they were notified that a worker had fallen into a non-operational mine shaft.

Various emergency rescue teams and police collaborated to recover the man's body.
