Australia’s first silica dust code of practice commences in Queensland

A new code of practice to minimise exposure to silica dust in the construction industry is now in force in Queensland.

The new code ‘Managing Respirable Crystalline Silica Dust Exposure in Construction and the Manufacturing of Construction Element’is Australia’s first code of practice for managingsilica dust.

“Labour Day 2023 also marks the commencement of Queensland’s nation leading silica dust code of practice for the construction and manufacturing industry,” Industrial Relations Minister Grace Grace said.

Ms Grace said the Queensland Government will implement the majority of the recommendations of the independent review of the Work Health and Safety Act 2011.
