Australia has now officially agreed to all ten Fundamental Conventions of the International Labour Organization (ILO), demonstrating the federal Government's dedication to safeguarding the rights and safety of workers.

According to Workplace Relations Minister Murray Watt, Australia ratified the final Fundamental Convention, known as the Promotional Framework for Occupational Safety and Health Convention 187, on 29 October during a tripartite ceremony held in Geneva, Switzerland.

This event included representatives from the Australian Council of Trade Unions and the Australian Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

The Minister said the Convention advocates for comprehensive national policies, systems, and programs aimed at fostering a safe and healthy workplace, while also working to prevent work-related injuries, illnesses, and fatalities.

“Ratification ensures Australian Governments continue to promote labour standards and protect workers from occupational harm, in line with international best practice,” the Minister said.
