Adelaide college fined after student drowns on school excursion
An Adelaide college has been fined $420,000 after a student drowned on a school trip in March 2021.
The 16-year-old student drowned after jumping into the water to rescue a fellow student.
A SafeWork SA investigation found the students were not given life jackets and non-slip shoes.
The school pleaded guilty in the South Australian Employments Tribunal (SAET) for Work Health and Safety Act breaches.
The college was initially fined $700,000 but the fine was later reduced to $420,000 due to an early guilty plea.
