ACT pays tribute to fallen workers

ACT Work Health and Safety Commissioner Jacqueline Agius has paid tribute to the workers who have died in workplace incidents at a National Workers’ Memorial ceremony.

SafeWork Australia data shows 194 Australian workers died on the job in 2020.

In the ACT, three workers have been killed at work since 2020.

“We are here to mourn and honour the lives of the workers who went to work and who did not come home. We stand with their families and loved ones,”Ms Agius said.

“We can only honour the memory of these workers by how we act in the present, by how we shape the future of workplaces and by fighting for the lives of the living.

“It is a day to recommit that every worker has a right to a safe workplace.

“We believe that every Canberran has the right to be safe at work, both physically and psychologically. We are here because we know healthy and safe workplaces are possible for all.”
